Introduction
In general we are attempting to eliminate passwords here at Cochran. If we were successful in that, you won't need to do many self-service password resets. But if you find yourself needing a password reset you can do so with the following self-service procedure.
Prerequisites
- A web browser and Internet access.
- An active Cochran account.
- Access to applicable secondary authentication methods.
Procedure
- Access the self-service password reset web tool at the following URI:
https://aka.ms/sspr - Fill your email address and enter the anti-bot glyphs.
- Click the Next button
- Select "I forgot my password" if it was not selected by default
- Click the Next button
-
Select from the available secondary authentication methods one that works well for you and provide that authenticator.
- For example: if you have Microsoft Authenticator configured you could select the "Approve a notification on my authenticator app" option and use the familiar password-less authentication flow to set a new password.
-
Type your new password.
- Password requirements:
- 12 characters or more in length
- Three of four or more character categories: upper case, lower case, numbers, symbols
- May not contain certain easy to guess sequences such as your username, name, company name, local sports teams, or frequently used passwords. This is a dictionary attack mitigation.
- Type your new password again, to make sure a typing error is less likely to be present.
- Click the Finish button.
-
Assuming the system processed your new password properly, you will receive a message in the browser that the password reset succeeded.
- If something went wrong, you should receive an error message.
